Themes

 The purpose of the conference is to bring together researchers working in the broad areas of nonlinear physics (fluid dynamics, turbulence, nonlinear optics), condensed mater physics and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics to review the recent advancements in the fields of hydrodynamic, wave, superfluid and optical turbulence and to identify future challenges.

 The conference aims to contribute towards evolving a coherent story of turbulence described by the two most widely studied partial differential equations: the Navier-Stokes/Euler equations and the non-linear Schrödinger equation (and its variants). This will need the insights and information from the current experiments and at the same time will suggest possible new experiments.

Among the many fundamental issues, which will be covered in the conference, the focus will be on the following:

  • what studies of turbulence in optical and superfluid systems have in store;
  • singularities in viscous and inviscid three-dimensional flows;
  • the phenomenon of irreversibility;
  • bifurcations over turbulent background.

This will also be the occasion to celebrate the scientific career of Marc Brachet, who will deliver a special lecture.

How to reach the conference hall:

The link below shows a google map directions from the tram stop Valrose Université (Line T1) to the conference hall (Théâtre du Grand Château, Valrose) inside the University campus.

Once inside the university there will be arrows guiding you to the conference hall.

If you are coming from the Hotel Villa St. Hubert (nearest tram stop Borriglione) / Hotel Monsigny (nearest tram stop Liberation) / down town/ Gare Thiers (train station) take Tram T1 in the direction Henri Sappia. People staying in hotel Villa St. Hubert and Hotel Monsigny may prefer to walk as well, as the Valrose University tram stop is ONE and TWO stops away, respectively. For those who are staying in the Faculty club the nearest tram stop is Vauban.
